Inside the Watch Box of the Founder of Eternal Heritage!

Meet our Founder/certified watch girlie, Emily!

Originally from Georgetown, TX and now based in Abilene, she has fully embraced the charm of small-town life. Especially with how supportive the small-business community in Abi has been in welcoming her new venture.

When she’s not sourcing dreamy vintage timepieces, you’ll find her gardening, reading, or planning her next trip!

She launched this monthly series because she’s a little nosey (I mean who isn’t right?) and has always loved a good “What’s in my bag?” video from Vogue. So naturally, she had to start: In the Watch Box…

Q: Do you think your collection reflects who you are as a person?

A: Definitely! I’d say there’s a healthy mix of practical watches for everyday wear and silly, quirky ones where I might not be able to tell the time, but I love how unique they are and how they make me feel when I put them on! I grew up with a mom who would often rock tie-dye nails and pink, puffy dresses-so when I put on my pink gemstone watch or Dali-inspired watch I feel like I am tapping into her energy or vibe!

Q: Eternal Heritage was created from the idea of celebrating pieces that are meant to be passed down—carrying stories from one life to the next. Are there any watches in your collection that you imagine handing down someday?

A: All of them, probably! Even my watches that might have only cost me a few dollars still have a story to share! I think there’s a common belief that only expensive items can be considered “heirlooms,” but I don’t necessarily agree.

What we collect and cherish in our lifetime can tell a lot about who we are and what we love. When we pass those pieces down, it’s a way for the people who love us to hold on to something tangible that reflects a little piece of our spirit and personality.

Q: When sourcing watches—whether for your personal collection or for Eternal Heritage—what qualities or criteria do you look for? What makes a piece stand out to you?

A: I always reach for classic or timeless looking pieces first! I have recently realized that not many women have a watch that isn’t a “tech watch” and I know the classics are always a safe place to start when building your own collection. From there I look for reputable brands that I know will last for years. Some of my favorites are Seiko, Gruen, and Citizen. And finally, I can never resist a jewelry-inspired piece-something with a little sparkle or a beautiful bracelet will always catch my attention!

Q: With quite a few pieces to choose from-how do you decide which watch you want to put on every day? Is it based around your outfit, mood for the day, or something else?

A: It is definitely based mostly on mood! It is similar to how I decide which book I want to read next, whatever mood I am in will determine what I reach for. That’s not to say that I want my watch to completely clash with what I am wearing that day, but the outfit isn’t the deciding factor either. It’s more about what feels right in the moment.

Q: Do any of the pieces in your collection have a personal story or a sentiment attached to them?

A: Most of them do! For instance, my little gold Gruen that is shown here was the watch that really inspired all of this for me. I found it beaten up and broken in an antique store. Once I got it cleaned up and in working condition I realized how many gems are out there that really just need a little TLC to shine again!

Q: If someone wanted to start a watch collection today, where should they start?

A: I have about 20 watches in my collection, but if I had to narrow it down-I would say you really only need 3 to start with.

  1. A classic that goes with everything.

  2. A dressy watch for special occasions.

  3. One that reflects your personality, or a fun watch.

Q: Do you have a “unicorn watch” you are still searching for?

A: If there ever is a day in my life where I have the means to spend 200k on a watch, I have always dreamed of owning a Cartier Crash! For now, I suppose a Cartier Baignoire would suffice;)
